Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Outstanding Views of Pamlico Sound and Sunsets has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
