Tips and Tricks to get the very best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and picking a perfectrental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Reflections: Canal front home, beautiful marsh views. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your family.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
