Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Reflections: Canal front home, beautiful marsh views. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
