How to book the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Finding the best vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • First, have your family commit to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The 'L': Located in a quiet private setting. Dock. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
