Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Aleta: Pet friendly, waterfront, perfect for two. Private docking. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
