Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Cabana II: Perfect getaway for two that offers a shared pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If not, email the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
