Tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Centrally located in the heart of Ocracoke Village. Perfect for two! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your trip.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
