Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Reserve your Ocracoke rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing the right Ocracoke vacation home:
- To start, have your family decide on dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Centrally located in the heart of Ocracoke Village. Perfect for two! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
