Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation rental in Ocracoke:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Dock House: Waterfront on canal in Oyster Creek has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your contract.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
