Tips to get the optimal Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Piper Green: Dog friendly on nearly an acre, privacy and tranquility. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
