How to find the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Piper Green: Dog friendly on nearly an acre, privacy and tranquility. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
