Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick your Ocracoke rental:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Cozy Island Cottage, centrally located in the Heart of the Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
