Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To get the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Cozy Island Cottage, centrally located in the Heart of the Village has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
