Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To book the best rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Perfect Getaway for Four! Close to Silver Lake! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
