Ocracoke vacation rental home tips:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best rental home:

  • To start, have your group select date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Eleanor Jane's: Beautiful New Home on Lighthouse Road has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you are enamored with, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
