Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the largest rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Exiled on Main Street: Large Pet-friendly home has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you crave, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
