Our top Ocracoke vacation rental tips:
Get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. JoBell: Spacious Newly Renovated Home has 6 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, contact the host before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
