Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the best Ocracoke rental home:
- Start by having your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Last Cast is a cozy, comfortable, pet friendly cottage with fenced yard. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
