Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the bestrental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Ginny's Place: Pet Friendly, Screened porch, easy walk to village activities. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

Have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
