Strategies for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose your prefectvacation home:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Hidden Jewel: Amazing 360 degree roof top views. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
