Ocracoke rental home tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Choosing and booking the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Unique, Romantic, Cozy, Island Cottage on #1 Beach in America has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
