Tricks and tips to get the very best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Ocracoke rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking the right Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Start by having your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Nicely Secluded Home, Short Stays Allowed has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
