Finding the best Ocracoke rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the best vacation home in the Ocracoke area:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Saltwater Therapy: Pet-Friendly Condo in the heart of Ocracoke Village has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
More considerations:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
