Tips to get the optimal Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the best vacation home in Ocracoke:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Salty Escape: Beautiful Condo in the Heart of Ocracoke Village has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
