Getting the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Book your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best rental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Reel Retreat: Pets Welcome I Screened Porch has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
