Strategies for getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Sandalwood, on the best beach in America???????????\n has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
