Rental property booking tips:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking your prefect Ocracoke rental home:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Sawbones: Unique Pet Friendly A Frame Home has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
