Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Finding the best value:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Start by having your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Sea Moor Lake: Harborfront with amazing views. Heated Pool. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips for a great stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
