Our top Ocracoke rental home booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking your prefect Ocracoke rental home:
- To start, have your family decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sea Moor Lake: Harborfront with amazing views. Heated Pool. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
