Tips and Tricks for getting the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Skynear: Private sweeping panorama of natural salt marsh and sound. has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
