Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Skynear: Private sweeping panorama of natural salt marsh and sound. has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
