Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Soundfront Inn: Spacious historic home with beach on Pamlico Sound has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you simply love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
