Our top Ocracoke rental booking tips:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your family decide on a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Two If By Sea I and II: Larger home with fabulous views of Silver Lake has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
