Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book a perfect Ocracoke rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful Canalfront Cottage, Perfect for Couples! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
