Strategies to get the best rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Down Point Hideaway: Boho chic 1 bedroom home just steps from Springer's Point - has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
