Tricks and tips to get the very best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

When to book a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • To find the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Ocracoke rental:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. We Still Do: Beautiful home on the canal in Oyster Creek with boat docking. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
