Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. To book the best rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. La Vie En Rose: Spacious dog friendly home, convenient location has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
