Our top Ocracoke rental home tips:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the best vacation home in Ocracoke:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. La Vie En Rose: Spacious dog friendly home, convenient location has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
