Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect rental in Ocracoke:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lucky Tern - A large pet-friendly home for 8 has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your family.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
