Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
How to choose and book the rightrental:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Solitude: Lavish, amenity filled! Relax in the pool, hot tub, theater has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
