Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To book the best vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose and book yourvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. McNeal Cottage: Comfortable home, large private back yard. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
