Finding the best vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking your prefectvacation home:
- First, have your family agree to dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Floundering Around: Canal front cottage perfect for your next fishing trip. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
