Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. To find the best value, change your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Advice for a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
