How to book the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oar house is a cozy cottage located near Springer's Point Nature Preserve. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke destination you love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
