Tricks and tips to get the very best Ocracoke rental experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and pick your Ocracoke rental home:

  • Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. SeaClusion I: Two-story vacation rental duplex has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
