Our top Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beach Therapy: Dog friendly, spacious interior and screened porches. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
