Strategies to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
