The old home, Harbor House I, was a appeal, sitting low and snug against Silver Lake, filled with memories, and sunsets daily. But too snug it turned out... Dorian had her way and the old place sadly succumbed.
In her place, Harbor House II has risen, simple still, but made grander by its sunny openness. Made magical by its striking vistas and peaceful sounds—sunsets and the constant lapping of Silver Lake. A deep-water dock and new decking bring the harbor nearer, more accessible. Hints of the old memories remain, but far more await to be made--all of them now elevated nine feet, safe from the wrath of future Dorians. This Saturday turn day property eases you into a vacation mindset by providing linens and towels for your stay.

Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental in Ocracoke:
- To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Harbor House 2: Waterfront home on Silver Lake Harbor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
