How to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book your Ocracoke rental home:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beachy Keen: Single story home with screened porch has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is right for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
