Booking the best vacation home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The Mary Francis: Dog friendly, near Springers Point and Lighthouse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
