Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Mary Francis: Dog friendly, near Springers Point and Lighthouse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
