Our top Ocracoke rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your group select vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Mary Francis: Dog friendly, near Springers Point and Lighthouse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
