How to book the best vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Bikini Bottom: Pool, hot tub, spacious and professionally decorated. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
