Getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • To get the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. La Fortezza: Soundfront, large yard, covered porches, small dock. has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
