Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. La Fortezza: Soundfront, large yard, covered porches, small dock. has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your family.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
