How to book the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To find the best rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • First and foremost, have your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Savanna: Enjoy fantastic views off the roof top deck. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
