Strategies for getting the best rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best rental:

  • First, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Savanna: Enjoy fantastic views off the roof top deck. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
