CanalHouse is a unique Ocracoke home on the rental market for the first time in 2022. The long time home of an old Ocracoke family, who still owns the property, CanalHouse sits on a canal which leads to Oyster Creek and Pamlico Sound through a photogenic salt water marsh. The huge back yard includes many live oak, bald cypress, and cedar trees. Appreciate the exceptional privacy on three enormous decks, including one on the back of the home with an outdoor shower and one surrounding an outbuilding right on the canal. NO power boat access. Please do not store or charge electric bicycles on the property. CanalHouse is providing full linen service beginning January 1, 2025.

CanalHouse received a major upgrade in conjunction with post-Dorian repairs. There is plenty of room to spread out in the home and outside. The heart of the home is a sizable room that combines kitchen, dining room and sitting room with TV. There is also a bigger living room with couch, chairs, and TV that adjoins a modest sunroom with writing desk. The kitchen is entirely equipped with refrigerator, electric range, dishwasher and open shelving to make everything you need painless to find. The home has central heating and AC, WiFi, washer/dryer combination, and cable TV. The smaller bathroom has a standing shower only, the bigger has a tub/shower combination. Parking for 2 cars is allowed. There is space and electric supplied for golf carts. We invite you to savor your Ocracoke visit at CanalHouse and hope to see you!

CanalHouse is limited to four people, no family pets, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are two queen beds and one single bed.

All guests of CanalHouse are STRONGLY urged to purchase cancellation insurance with your booking through Vacation Rental By Owner. Things happen. You want to be protected.

This property is offered by Premier Partner, Debbie Wells, who also manages two other Vacation Rental By Owner properties: The Studio, #332656, and SoundHouse, #2203510. All cottages are personally managed and locally owned and operated and feature great locations, clean and functional interiors and competitive pricing. We hope to see you!

Vacation rental tips:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • To get the largest rental within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your group choose date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. CanalHouse Private Large Home on Canal Front has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
