Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your Ocracoke rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking a perfect Ocracoke rental:

  • Start by having your group choose the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Captain Reid's Devereux: Great getaway for two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
