Our top Ocracoke vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to your budget:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. To get the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best rental:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Captain Reid's Devereux: Great getaway for two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
