How to find the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Conched Out: Close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, email the host before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
