Strategies for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Patty's Hollow: Charming Ocracoke cottage across from Zillie's. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
